The Midland Cultural Centre (MCC) cordially invites you to join us for the “He Carries Fire” Exhibition by Tsista Kennedy at the Midland Cultural Centre Gallery of Indigenous Art. This exhibition will be featured in the Gallery from Jan 16th, 2025 to March 1st, 2025.
Born in the fall of 2001, Tehatsistahawi (Tsista) Kennedy is a Turtle Clan Anishinaabe and Onyota’a:aka artist belonging to Beausoleil First Nation and Oneida Nation of the Thames. He is a self-taught artist, and often creates his work digitally.
Tsista’s variation of woodland style can be recognized by semi-bold black lines, intricate patterns, and vibrant colors; all of which work together to make the artwork flow elegantly across the canvas.
Tsista Kennedy’s artwork isn’t solely rooted in the traditional aspects of his identity, nor his contemporary perspectives; it’s a merging of the two. With his personal experiences and stories thrown into the mix, combining these two perspectives provides the inspiration behind some of Tsista Kennedy’s artwork today. Being a frequent daydreamer however, many of his best art pieces simply begin as an image or idea popping up in his head.

Since their formation at Glastonbury Festival 2002, the ever-evolving collective Moulettes have forged an uncommon course, led by Cellist & Songwriter, Hannah Moule.
From the avant-folk of their early albums, to the cinematic chamber pop of 2014 album ‘Constellations’ & the big riffs of sonic chameleon ‘Preternatural’, this is a band who put creativity at the heart of everything they do.
Moulettes have had support from many different quarters, garnering praise & appreciation in the parallel worlds of Folk, Prog and Indie. As champions of detailed, original music & sharp songwriting, they have earned their accolades. As they reinvent and reimagine themselves at every stage with a revolving cast of exceptional musicians, Moulettes music is always distinctively recognizable.
Causing a sensation on their coast to coast Festival tour of Canada, they were an instant hit on the Quebec Progressive scene, most memorably playing an electrifying outdoor show at the Montreal Jazz Festival, and were named “the best thing at Winnipeg Folk Festival” by CBC’s Tom Power.
Following up on their October 2024 tour across Nova Scotia, Quebec & Ontario, Moulettes return to launch their newest creation; ‘Xenolalia’, A multimedia artbook & a groundbreaking experiment in collaboration & composition. It takes the reader on a journey through the Moultiverse, linking to 55 pieces of music via QR code, alongside lyrics, interviews & stories that illuminate the songs contained within.
Moulettes offer something entirely unique & musically kaleidoscopic – Cello, Viola, Violin, Percussion, Synthesizers & 5 part harmony vocals in playfully eclectic symbiosis. Often performing ‘in the round’ where possible, audiences tangibly feel their instinctive communication with each other & the sheer joy of playing as an ensemble.

Event Details
By popular demand, this all-star Canadian cast of award-winning blues and roots musicians, under the direction of Juno award winning producer and musical director, Lance Anderson, will be returning to the Midland Cultural Centre.
They are celebrating the 49th Anniversary of THE BAND’s last concert in 1976 and The BAND’s amazing contribution to our shared Canadian musical heritage. This is an all-star line-up, featuring Jerome Levon Avis (Levon Helm’s godson), on drums and vocals with special guests and a nine-piece band led by Maple Blues 2014 ‘Keyboardist of the Year’ Lance Anderson. The performance will recreate the atmosphere of The Band’s final concert, which was captured in Martin Scorcese’s award-winning concert film, The Last Waltz.
On the American Thanksgiving of 1976 at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom, The BAND performed what they called their “Last Waltz,” and invited many of their friends to join in the celebration. These friends included Bob Dylan, Ronnie Hawkins, Van Morrison, and Canadians Neil Young and Joni Mitchell and others who performed with The Band on this special night.
In this homage to The Last Waltz, Anderson’s special guests will perform the songs played and sung by these guest artists at the memorable 1976 concert.
Backed by a 9-piece band that includes Jerome Levon Avis, Terry Blersh on guitar, Dennis Pinhorn (The Hawks) on bass, Rob Gusevs (Blood, Sweat and Tears) on organ and Anderson (Joint Chiefs of Soul) on piano and vocals, this is a group of seasoned veterans who love the music. Anderson’s band also features a stellar four-piece horn section including David Dunlop (Boss Brass) on trumpet, Gord Meyers (Blood, Sweat and Tears) on trombone and tuba, Chris Murphy (The Maple Blues Band) on tenor sax and Simon Wallis (Lighthouse) on baritone sax. An all-star band!
