New Winter Glamping Getaway Under the Stars in Simcoe County
Winter in Simcoe County is a magical time to visit, when snow blankets the landscape and cold nights are made special with warm fires sparking into the constellations above. Since time immemorial, humans have looked to the stars for navigation, guidance, and stories. At Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons, 90 minutes north of Toronto, there is a new glamping getaway experience where you can immerse yourself amongst history and the stars.
Grab the cultural explorer in your life and trade in the hustle and bustle of everyday life for an overnight stay in a cozy cabin, tour under the stars, and private dining in a snow crystal. Whether you’re looking for the perfect Valentine’s gift or a special girls’ weekend with the bestie, we have your guide to this unique winter package.
Cozy Waterfront Cabins in a Historic Setting

Now, this is no “roughing-it” camping experience. The custom-built four-season cabins are fully climate controlled with indoor electric fireplace for a warm and inviting retreat.
Nestled beside the historic grounds of Sainte-Marie among the Hurons, along the picturesque Wye River, these cabins offer a rustic, inviting atmosphere with hand-crafted furniture made by Sainte-Marie’s carpenter. Step outside to your private firepit for peaceful evenings under the stars. Just a short walk away, you’ll find modern washrooms and full accessible shower facilities for your convenience.
Take your choice of three cabins – Bear cabin is perfect for two people, maxing out at four, and Turtle and Wolf cabins are great for a friends’ getaway maxing out at six people.
- Note: Wifi and Bedding not included – Bring bedding i.e. sleeping bag, pillow and blankets
Stories in the Skies

After you’ve settled into your cabin, it’s time to be fully immersed with the new Sky Stories site tour. Join Sainte-Marie’s most knowledgeable costumed interpreters as they share captivating stories of how the Wendat and French in the 17th century looked to the stars for guidance.
For anyone who has attended the historic site’s magical First Light event, this is a completely new way to explore the grounds in the quiet serenity only winter can offer. Hear the quiet crunch of snow beneath your feet as you walk through the site, awakening your senses as you look up at the night’s sky. Learn about the ways constellations helped keep travellers safe, signaled the change in seasons, and listen to the stories connecting the stars in the sky concluding around the fire inside one of Sainte-Marie’s iconic longhouses.
This experience (recommended for people ages 11 and up) is available as part of your cabin stay, simply select your timeslot and ticket quantity when completing your overnight reservation.
- Note: Wear weather appropriate clothes! This tour stops in cozy locations, but you will be traveling around the site. While the paths in the camping area are lit, we suggest bringing flashlights or headlamps to ensure your safety.

Finish your evening with an elevated dining experience in one of Restaurant Sainte-Marie’s outdoor private snow crystal or cabin.
